Cacc’e Mmitte di Lucera, Puglia
Alberto Longo farms 35 hectares in Puglia, and with the help of enologist Graziana Grassini, crafts some of the most impressive wines of the region. Grassini was the star pupil of famed enologist Giacomo Tachis (Sassicaia, Tignanello, Solaia) who actually helped Alberto get started. Nearing retirement he tapped Grassini as his successor.
Alberto spares no effort, and his attention to detail in vineyards and cellar translates to a rare precision on the palate. He feels that his wines represent the excellence of ancient Daunia, as much as modern Puglia. Daunia was a distinct civilization in ancient northern Puglia with a rich archeological legacy.
