Côtes du Roussillon

This is a small co-operative in the hills north-west of Perpignan, originally founded in 1932. Most of the vignerons have very small holdings and there is a marked contrast with the large co-ops in the area. The administrative team of Valerie Balmigere and Maximilien Paillard can most often be found on their tractors in the vines.

The area is associated with both the 9th century Ch. Las Fons, and the 13th century Chateau de Calce. The scenery is stark but beautiful and the terroir ideal for wine. Here the schists of the Pyrenees meet the limestone of the Mediterranean.

Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir, old Carignan. Full-bodied, robust but fresh, versatile.
