DOMAINE LANDRON
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, France
In 1979 Jo Landron settled in at Domaine de la Louvetrie at his father’s side, practicing a form of intensive agriculture. In 1983 he vinified Le Fief du Breil separately, then in 1990 decided to cut yields in half, not without objection from his just-retired father. In 1996 the first results were felt. But he was bored tasting his wines, a bad sign for any good vigneron. In 1999 he moved to organic agriculture, then to biodynamics, which he considers a state of mind rather than a formula. So it was he revivified his soils. “You can make mistakes in life, but when you realize your mistakes, you no longer have the right to make them.” His wines are a wonderful tribute to the man he calls his mentor: Guy Bossard, one of the pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Loire.
Wines
Landron La Louvetrie – Muscadet de Sevre et Maine
The main cuvee from Jo, it exemplifies the straightforward deliciousness and versatility of Muscadet. Nuanced fruit and a touch of minerality.
Landron Amphibolite – Muscadet de Sevre et Maine
From vines grown exclusively on this coarse-grained metamorphic rock. Hand-harvested, 4 months only on the lees to preserve freshness. A little natural prickle from CO2. Low alcohol, crisp and light, fresh citrus and sea salt.
Landron Les Houx – Muscadet de Sevre et Maine
A selection of terroirs: sandy clay and quartz pebbles with gneiss, schist and clay sub-soils. Riper and rounder but with a smoky mineral note.
Landron Le Fief du Breil – Muscadet de Sevre et Maine
Southern exposure on the Sevre, shallow stony flinty-clay over orthogneiss and quartz. Fine floral and ripe fruit nose, herbs and minerals on the palate. Long and complex, can age for 10 years or more.
Landron Haute Tradition – Muscadet de Sevre et Maine
Well drained orthogneiss and quartz. One year in wood. Fine yellow fruits and licorice notes. Ripe but structured and fresh. Can age well over 10 years.

100% Melon blanc, unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfur.
