CONTI DI BUSCARETO
Marche, Italy
This is the Marche, one of the least publicized regions of Italy. And yet it boasts truffles, incredible seafood, and of course, fantastic wine. A couple of native sons are doing their best to spread the word.
Enrico Giacomelli and Claudio Gabellini made their money in software, but seem determined to spend a great deal of it in vines. They founded the Azienda in 2002, and now have 5 farms in the hinterlands of Ancona and Senigallia. Of over 100 hectares, 70 are under vine. They produce a wide range of wines, but our favorites are the Verdicchio and the unique Lacrima di Morro d’Alba. The latter is an aromatic grape that has an exuberant resinous character. It’s not for everyone, but we love it.
