FERRÉ I CATASÙS
Catalunya, Spain
The tale of Ferré i Catasùs, the winery that brings us the delightful Compta Ovelles wine, begins as a love story, in 1935 when Lluis Ferré Pascual and Maria Catasús Domènech went against the wishes of their parents and married in secret. The winery they began together still bears their names, nearly 100 years later.
"The best wine is the one you like most," Lluis was fond of saying, and to that end, the wines produced here are simple yet eminently pleasurable easy to enjoy. As the years went on, this mantra, hand in hand with the concept of sustainability, became the core of the viticultural and winemaking philosophy at Ferré i Catasùs.
They grow a litany of varieties in their 46 hectares scattered throughout l'Alt and Penedès - everything from native varieties like Xarel-lo and Paralleda to imports like Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. We're quite partial to their international blend "Compta Ovelles Tinto," a blend of Cab, Syrah, and Merlot with unique Mediterranean flare.
